Design Surface Ply-5
Beautiful flooring is said to be the foundation to any home. When remodeling or moving into a newly built home, lifestyle should be a huge factor in making the decision on which type of flooring to choose. Flooring sets off the overall feel and look of a home’s décor. When choosing flooring, consideration needs to be given to durability, hardiness, maintenance, as well as how well the flooring fits in with furnishings. Because of these considerations, surface ply 5 flooring is a favorite amongst homeowners and builders alike.
Surface Ply 5 flooring is a type of plywood (engineered hardwood) made from very thin sheets of layers, commonly referred to as veneers. It is made by gluing plywood layers together. The strength comes from running the grain of adjacent plies in an alternating direction from one another (basically at right angles). The ply 5 comes from the fact than an odd number (5) of plies are used to keep the sheets balanced, thereby reducing warping.
When incorporating this wood flooring into a home’s design, keep in mind that this wood is great for high traffic areas, can withstand lots of everyday abuse and wear and tear, and can withstand extreme temperature conditions and changes, including a very humid region or a dry, desert climate. In addition, ply 5 engineered flooring can be installed over hard surfaces, such as concrete, marble, vinyl, or even ceramic tile floors. The bottom line is that because plywood is inexpensive, hardy, resistant to cracking and shrinkage, it can be used in every room in the house, from above to below (basement) floors. This flexible wood comes in a variety of options.
The three primary categories of plywood flooring are softwood, hardwood, and the beautiful, highly sought after tropical plywood. Softwood veneers are ordinarily made up of Douglas fir or cedar, or a combination of spruce, pine and fir wood. This is known in the flooring industry as SPF or just spruce-pine-fir. In addition, redwood is used at times, but not with the frequency of SPF.
Hardwood plywood is the most popular plywood. It is made of birch and is used in every room imaginable in the home. Its thickness and durability stands out from the other plywood types. Because it is stiff, has a high planar strength and resistant to constant impact, i.e., walking, running, and jumping, it is seen as a sound investment for home owners. Other types of hardwood that are used, though not as popular as birch, are ash, oak, maple, red oak and the extraordinary dark wood, mahogany.
The third type of plywood used for flooring designs is tropical plywood. It comes from the south-east Asia area of the world, in particular Indonesia and Malaysia. It is known for its strength, much like hardwood, as well as its superior quality. It is much more dense and thicker than softwood plywood, making this the premium plywood.
